Getting Mold Out of Clothing

What Do You Do?
Have you recently recovered from house mold? Did you have a remediation company in Grand Manor, AZ, out to your home to resolve your issue? Fantastic. Unfortunately, when going through the affected area, you notice that some of your clothing in storage has signs of mold growth. What do you do?
1. Scrub
The first thing you can do to get mold out of clothing if you do not want to throw it away is to get the worst of it off first. You want to use an old toothbrush and gently scrub the mold away. Get as much of the mold off before moving to the next step, but work outdoors.
2. Spray
Next, you want to apply a liberal amount of a commercial stain remover to the clothing. Do not throw it into the washer immediately. Let the stain remover sit for a minimum of 30 minutes.
3. Wash
Throw only one item at a time into the wash. You want to set the washer to the largest load size with the hottest temperature setting. Then, wait for the machine to fill before adding 3/4 cup of vinegar to the cycle.
4. Dry
Do not put the clothing into the dryer. Hang the items up to dry. If you put it in the dryer and the mold is not completely gone, then your dryer may become contaminated and spread the house mold to other clothing items.
5. Rewash
Once the clothes have dried, you can put them into the washer and use detergent. This time wash the item as you usually would. You should be able to use the dryer the second time around as well.
Finding house mold on clothing can be disturbing, but it does not automatically mean you have to throw the garment away. Sometimes a proper washing can take care of it. However, before deciding to take on a DIY method, contact a mediation service in your area.
